How to Watercolour with Stampin’ Up! Inks: Video Tutorial

by | Jun 26, 2024 | Cardmaking, Colouring and Colour Combinations, Designer Series Paper, My Classes and Events, Other Occasion Cards | 0 comments

Today I have a video tutorial for you showing how to watercolour with Stampin’ Up! inks. I used this technique in one of my recent Stampin’ Up! Mediterranean Blooms suite online classes (now available to purchase as an immediate download class from anywhere in the world).

I’m using the Citrus Blooms stamp set from the Mediterranean Blooms stamp set as the stamped image to watercolour. The card on the left is the one I water-coloured in the video, and the card on the right is another one using the water-coloured image which is included in my immediate download class for this suite.

What products do I need to watercolour with Stampin’ Up! inks?

To get a great result, you need the following products:

Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper which is cold pressed, archival cotton paper specifically for watercolouring.

Water Painters which allow you to either use the water in the barrel (or a small container if you prefer) to pick up the ink and add it to the image.

Either Stazon ink or Versamark and Embossing Powder to stamp the image. I have used gold embossing powder from the Metallics pack on this card, but we also have a Basics pack with clear, white and black powder. Embossing the image is helpful, because it is easier to keep the colours from bleeding. I often watercolour just with the imaged stamped with Stazon though.

Stampin’ Up! ink pads. We use the ink collected in the lid to watercolour with (the video gives more detail). To colour this image I have used Balmy Blue (background ink wash), Peach Pie, Pumpkin Pie and Calypso Coral for the oranges, Lemon Lolly for the blossoms, and Garden Green for the leaves.

It’s also helpful to have a waterproof surface like our glass mat (which goes on sale to customers on July 3rd), and some paper towel handy.

Now let’s go through the process with my step by step video.

Step by Step Video on how to Watercolour with Stampin’ Up! Ink Pads.

I hope you enjoyed the video and it gave you some tips on how to watercolour with Stampin’ Up! ink pads. I know my techniques aren’t perfect but to be honest I kind of like the imperfect vintage type look! As I said in the video everyone develops their own style so the main thing is to have a go!

Additionally, if you love the Citrus Blooms bundle and whole Mediterranean Blooms Suite, you can purchase any of these products from me in Australia using one of three ways. The products can be purchased as a suite, or you can purchase the products individually. You can find all the products HERE in my online Stampin’ Up! store.

Here’s a look at what makes up the suite.

Firstly a close look at the patterned paper which is perfect for both scrapbooking and cardmaking. I am so in love with this beautiful paper I am already on my second pack and it was only released last month.

The other things which make up the suite are the Stampin’ Up! Citrus Blooms Bundle which includes the stamp set and dies at a 10% discount and the Opal Round Assortment Embellishments. These embellishments coordinate perfectly with the colours in the patterned paper. The dies also cut out two of the images in the patterned paper.
