Hello friends. Today I have a Christmas card using the embossed two tone cardstock technique to create a gentle frame around the feature baubles. This is for the Art with Heart Team Heart of Christmas Blog Hop (HOC). We are up to week 9.

My card is a 14cm square card this week, as it accommodates the Traditional Wreath embossing folder better.

29025 Stampin Up Christmas card using Traditions of Christmas suite and the Embossed Two Tone Cardstock technique.

I have taken my colour inspiration from the colours in the Traditions of Christmas specialty paper. Secret Sea is the base layer and Pool Party is used for the embossed layer and sentiment label. I have used a thin mat of Real Red cardstock between the Pool Party and Secret Sea.

About the Embossed Two Tone Cardstock Technique.

Stampin’ Up! Two tone cardstock is available for purchase in 12 x 12″ size in all of the Stampin’ Up! colours, as well as combo packs which coordinate with many of our Designer Series Papers. For example the Keeping Traditions combo pack is designed to coordinate perfectly with the Traditions of Christmas DSP pack (see links at end of post). As the name suggests, this cardstock is the normal tone on one side, but a lighter tone on the other. So you are really getting two shades in one pack, which is very handy. The weight of this cardstock is a little lighter than our regular cardstock.

Another defining feature is that this cardstock has a white core. So when you emboss it, you can lightly sand to reveal some of the white core. You can see this technique demonstrated for this card in this video.

Embossed Two Tone Cardstock Technique for cardmaking using Stampin' Up! Ornamental Christmas bundle.

Decorating the Embossed Two Tone Cardstock piece.

Once you have embossed your cardstock piece and assembled the base layers, you can get to work decorating your card,

  • Using the Ornamental Christmas dies, cut two baubles from the Traditional Christmas Specialty DSP, and two bauble tops from Gold Foil cardstock. Adhere one directly to the embossed layer, and pop the other up on Dimensionals.
  • Make two double bows using the Old Olive Linen Thread (from the Early Espresso and Old Old Olive combination pack) and adhere to the top of each bauble with a glue dot.
  • Using the Traditional Labels bundle, stamp the sentiment in Secret Sea onto a piece of Pool Party cardstock. Cut out with the coordinating Traditional Labels dies, and adhere with Dimensionals.
  • Finally arrange some of the Tradional Sparkling Sequins around the baubles and sentiment.
